Introduction
Embark on an 8-day group tour of Austria, exploring Salzburg’s Mirabell Gardens, Mozart’s birthplace, and Hohensalzburg Fortress. In Vienna, discover the Schonbrunn Palace, Hofburg, and the historic Ringstrasse, then take a day trip to the scenic Danube Valley with a boat ride from Durnstein to Melk and a visit to the Benedictine Melk Abbey. Plus, enjoy plenty of leisure time to further explore Austria's most popular destinations at your own pace.

Day 1 Welcome to Austria!
You will most likely arrive at Salzburg Airport or Vienna International Airport. From here, make your way to our hotel in Salzburg.
After checking into the hotel, take some time to stroll through the charming UNESCO-listed Old Town, exploring its quaint streets, unique shops, and picturesque views along the Salzach River.
Back at the hotel, a welcome drink is included in the evening.
Tour Style: On this tour you will enjoy included excursions and free time to spend at leisure. On the excursions the maximum group size is 45. A tour leader is on hand at the hotel to provide information and assistance throughout your stay.

Day 2 Walking tour of SalzburgWe’ll depart our hotel for a half-day guided walking tour of Salzburg, where we’ll visit the beautiful Mirabell Gardens and the pedestrianised street of Getreidegasse, the birthplace of the 18th-century composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Entrance to Mozart's birthplace is included. Your afternoon and evening will be at leisure; You might want to take the funicular railway up to Festung Hohensalzburg to enjoy panoramic views over Salzburg.

Day 3 Salzburg at leisure or optional Sound of Music tour
Today will be free for you to enjoy at your leisure. You can take some time to explore the city of Salzburg and wander around the UNESCO-listed Old Town, perhaps paying a visit to Hohensalzburg Fortress for panoramic views of this fascinating city.
Alternatively, you can opt to take an optional Sound of Music Tour. Enjoy sweeping views while exploring the original filming locations from the Sound of Music in Salzburg and the Lake District, including the wedding church in Mondsee. You will follow in the footsteps of the Von Trapp family and see the original settings from the film, as well as learn about the historical and architectural landmarks of Salzburg.
You can enjoy some music from the Original Sound of Music soundtrack and feel free to sing along!

Day 4 Salzburg to ViennaSalzburg - Vienna. After breakfast, we’ll check out of our hotel and depart for Vienna. Our transfer time is approximately three hours. Upon arrival in the Austrian capital, the rest of your afternoon and evening will be at leisure.

Day 5 Sightseeing tour of ViennaToday we’ll discover Vienna during a half-day guided sightseeing tour. We’ll enjoy sights like the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace, the summer residence of Empress Sisi, before visiting Hofburg, the former Imperial winter residence and the scene of the Vienna Congress. We’ll also visit the Ringstrasse, home to magnificent buildings such as the Vienna State Opera House and the Votive Church. The remainder of your day will be at leisure.

Day 6 Danube Valley tourToday we’ll embark on a full-day trip to one of the most beautiful parts of the Danube Valley: the Wachau, a UNESCO-listed site. During this excursion, we’ll pass the vineyards, abbeys, and forests of the Austrian countryside as we learn about the area’s rich history. Next, we’ll travel by boat from Durnstein to Melk. In Melk, we’ll visit the Benedictine Melk Abbey, which overlooks the Danube River. First established in the 11th century, this Baroque-style abbey is adorned with bright frescoes and has housed monks for over 900 years.

Day 7 Vienna at leisureYou will have the day free for shopping and sightseeing of your choice. You might consider visiting the Kunsthistorisches Museum, where works by Raphael, Caravaggio, Brueghel, Bosch, and many other celebrated artists are on display. Alternatively, you could pay a visit to the stunning Belvedere Palace and Gardens. Another option is to stroll through Heldenplatz, with Hofburg Palace, Parliament, and the Museumsquartier nearby. Be sure to take a coffee break and try a slice of Vienna’s famous Sacher Torte!
